Mixing salt into watercolor painting can make for some visceral textures.

Watercolors can show such fine gradations in tone, color and contrast. They can be a bit unforgiving, but patience is well rewarded.

I’ve always loved botanical illustration, particularly when done in watercolor. This painting is one of my favorite pieces.
